-ENGLISH-
The Bosch Ensemble performs the original music of composer, Steven L Jobe. Inspired by the traditional music of England, France and Brittany, Jobe is also influenced by the music of Purcell, Debussy and the Beatles. In collaboration with Laura Gulley (violin), Rob Bethel (cello), Chris Sadlers (string bass and Bosch chanter) and Rachel Rosenkrantz (Bosch wheels), the band’s arrangements alsofeature the unique Bosch Hurdy-Gurdy — a 10 ft. three-wheel vielle withsounds in the bass and contra-bass range.

In 2016, the Bosch Hurdy Gurdy has been listed as the world’s largest Hurdy Gurdy by the Guinness Book of World Records

Steven Jobe received funding from the Rhode Island Foundation in 2000 and 2001 to create large-scale musical instruments based on the imagery of the painting « Millennium » by Hieronymus Bosch. He commissioned set-designer Jeremy Woodward to make the body of a 10-ft. wheel-fiddle instrument and luthier Daniel Thonon to create the wheel-fiddle aspects. In 2015, at Jobe’s request, Austrian luthier Wolfgang Weichselbaumer made a new chanter wheel for the instrument and Rhode Island luthier, Rachel Rosenkrantz refurbished the keyboard.
