We’re delighted to announce the return of Kongero to the region, on February 28, 2025, 8pm, at the Maison de la culture Eulalie-Durocher, in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu. As part of its series of acoustic concerts outside the festival, Chants de Vielles invites you to share this moment of sweetness, and put a little warmth into your winter…
Formed in 2005, Kongero is a Swedish vocal group made up of four folk singers: Lotta Andersson, Emma Björling, Sofia Hultqvist Kott and Anna Wikénius. The ensemble has performed on numerous traditional music stages and festivals, as well as at a number of a capella and chamber music festivals throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Kongero’s repertoire consists of traditional and original songs and tunes. Kongero tell stories of life, with moving love songs, dramatic medieval ballads, witty ditties and spirited dances. Their music is characterized by tight harmonies, driving rhythms and the clarity of their sublime voices.
Thanks to their confidence, technical skill, irresistible playfulness and brilliant arrangements, they create a unique sound that brings traditional music from the past into the present.

Some will remember their memorable concert at the Festival Chants de Vielles 2018. The band has since released their sixth album, Live in Longueuil, in 2021, to rave reviews worldwide:
“… and my, my, what a birthday present for anyone with ears to hear. On a mix of traditional and self-composed pieces, they shine with a crystalline brilliance.” – Chris Nickson RootsWorld USA, 2021. Om Live in Longueuil
“This group is a revelation. The beauty of the four voices is equaled only by the pristine, flawless arrangements. They provide a stunning example of a marriage between the traditional and the innovative. This magical Swedish music very much deserves to be heard far and wide.” – Jeff Meshel, Music journalist
“The vocal harmonies are, as usual, heartbreakingly virtuoso, crystal clear and intense, full of tension that dissolves into lovely harmonies” – Alexandra Ullsten, Lira 2021. Om Live in Longueuil
