#2 Instrumental techniques, interpretation and expression of hurdy-gurdy playing with Gregory Jolivet – SOLD OUT

Who should attend :  The workshop is open to all hurdy-gurdy players wishing to work on repertoire from Centre France, Berry, and a few compositions. The repertoire is for hurdy-gurdies in C/G tuning.

Descriptif: We will work on dance-related repertoire: 1) cadence and tempo 2) right-hand ornamentation (vibrato, mordant, trill) as well as micro-variations, and finally 3) rhythm in support of dance (off-beat, dissociation). On the keyboard side, phrasing with variations, chromatic additions and melodic-rhythmic variation to optimize full playing will be covered. Trainees will also be able to work on variation through mode changes, improvisation exercises and counterpoint writing. On rhythmic form, it will be possible to work on different rhythmic cells and mix them with melodies. The teacher will guide the trainees in the search for a musical interpretation through the emotion of the melodies in the repertoire. It is envisaged that trainees will be able to experiment with the acquired repertoire in front of an audience in the company of bagpipe trainees (during a short performance on Sunday).
