Saviez-vous que?

Voici la petite histoire de la naissance de Chants de Vielles. Il était une fois, un beau petit couple du nom de Geneviève et Nicolas, qui décidèrent de pendre la crémaillère un samedi 20 septembre 2003 sur la rue Beauce à Calixa-Lavallée. Bien qu’ils avaient invités quelques dizaines d’amis à venir festoyer, les voilà tu pas rendu au beau milieu de la soirée, avec plus d’une centaine de personnes qui déambulaient partout. Du Vigneault au piano dans le salon, du biniou-bombarde et danseurs plein la grange, et un jam de trad québécois près du ruisseau, et ce jusqu’au petit matin. La fosse sceptique c’est même plaint de tout cet achalandage. Une fois tout ce tumulte de musique, de chants et de danse passé, ils en sont venus à la réflexion que ce qui manquait dans leur magnifique région, c’est un festival de belle musique traditionnelle. Et comme toute conception d’enfant, neuf mois plus tard, ils donnèrent naissance au festival avec Olivier endossant le rôle de sage femme. Ils ont longtemps débattu sur le prénom de l’enfant. Geneviève voulant qu’il en soit un de chants et Nicolas un de vielles. Mais en bon amoureux qu’ils étaient, ils se concédèrent l’un à l’autre et le baptisèrent Chants de Vielles. Aujourd’hui en 2009, le bébé a grandi et a maintenant six ans. Il est plus en forme que jamais et cette année il s’est fait un nouvel ami, Archambault, qu’il espère garder longtemps. – Chantale Émond

Here is the little story of the birth of Chants de Vielles. Once upon a time, there was a cute couple by the name of Geneviève and Nicolas that decided to have a house warming one Saturday September 20th 2003. Even though they had invited a few dozen friends to feast, they found themselves in the middle of the evening with more than a hundred, strolling all over. The living room piano playing some Vigneault, bag-pipes and dancers filling the barn and a quebec trad jam near the stream until the wee hours of the morning. Even the sceptic tank complained about all the demands. Once all the commotion of music, singing and dancing was over, they came upon the reflection that what was missing in their magnificent region, was a festival of beautiful traditional music. And as with all child conception, nine months later they gave birth to the festival with Olivier endorsing the role of midwife. They long debated on the name, Geneviève wanting Chants and Nicolas wanting Vielles. But as two persons in love, they conceded to one another and baptised it Chants de Vielles. Today in 2009, the baby has grown and is now six years old. He is on the top of his form like never before and has made a new friend, Archambault, which he wishes to keep for a long time. – Chantale Émond
