Tradàlannée

Since 2010, with the main objective of raising awareness of traditional Quebec music among children, Chants de Vielles has launched the original TRADÀLANNÉE! project.

By respecting its educational mandate, Chants de Vielles, in addition to developing a program for young audiences as part of its summer festival, works to provide specialized musical awakening for children, thus helping to meet a need for the transmission of Quebec’s musical and sung traditions. More specifically, TRADÀLANNÉE! consists of awareness-raising activities in regional schools, an intergenerational oral transmission activity using a photo booth, and activities in childcare centres or as part of municipal recreation programs. Combined with the festival’s program for young audiences, these activities are very successful and contribute significantly to the organization’s regional clientele development.

TRADÀLANNÉE milestones

“Hurdy-Gurdy Songs at School,” initially implemented in the Marguerite-D’Youville Regional County Municipality (MRC) and subsequently in five schools in the region (Patriots School Service Centre), was made possible thanks to a grant from the Ministry of Culture and Communications.

The Tradalannée Photo Booth is an intergenerational activity that raises awareness of oral tradition.

Depending on the specific funding received, the Tradalannée project has been implemented in early childhood centres (CPEs), schools, and as part of municipal activities in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024 (Quebec Arts and Letters Council, Vallée-du-Richelieu MRC, Municipality of Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu).
