Teacher’s presentation : Newfoundland-born Kate Bevan-Baker is a fiddler, classical violinist and singer. She won a Prix Opus for the performance Baratin d’Marins with La Nef (Traditional Quebecois Concert of the Year, 2022), and has received three nominations for Canadian Folk Music Awards. Kate holds violin performance degrees from Memorial and McGill Universities, a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching, and a PhD in ethnomusicology specializing in Irish music from Concordia University. She is a freelance musician and part time professor at Concordia University.
Target audience : All levels except beginners with no experience.
Description : Do you love Irish music and want to learn how to play more Irish jigs and reels? This workshop will help you improve your swing and achieve the elusive Irish style. With Kate, you will learn more repertoire by ear, exploring ornaments and bow patterns.
In addition to the core curriculum, participants will have the opportunity to participate in optional public activities during the festival. Details of these activities will be announced on June 1st. These activities will also include suggested session locations and times.
