Daniel Bellegarde

Daneil Bellegarde Chants de vielles

Haïti

A Montréal-based percussionist of Haitian origin, Daniel has been a self-taught musician since 1984. He has made a name for himself alongside legendary Québec artist Robert Charlebois, Haitian singer Émeline Michel, Brazilian artists Bïa and Paulo Ramos, and Cirque du Soleil. He can be heard on more than 50 albums. Fascinated by the history of Haiti that his grandfather wrote in 1903, as well as by ancient and traditional music, Daniel Bellegarde’s repertoire includes quadrille, contradance, Congo-minuet, waltz, and troubadour music. His Chants de Vielles concert is based on his album, Pastourelle, which combines his Haitian roots and his Celtic and Brazilian musical influences. It is also a reflection on the theme of métissage. Be ready to dance!!!
